An elderly couple gassed themselves to death in their car because they couldn't cope with their deteriorating health, an inquest heard. Peter Southgate, 82, and wife Kathleen, 86, were found dead at their home in West Wittering, near Chichester, Sussex, on May 31 this year. The couple formed a suicide pact after Mrs Southgate was diagnosed with epilepsy and her husband worried he would not be able to cope with the burden of her seizures while becoming infirm himself.
