Man jailed for four years for strangling mother

A man who strangled his elderly mother during an argument at their home in the New South Wales southern highlands will spend at least four years behind bars. Terrence Kain phoned his sister one night in February 2011 and simply said: "Mum's dead. I strangled her, she's dead." When police arrived at the Goulburn home Kain, who has alcohol-induced dementia, told them he had "freaked out". "I'm not a bad guy, I just lost control," Kain said. Kain, 48, was acquitted of the murder of his 74-year-old mother Beverly Kain, but convicted of manslaughter. Mrs Kain's body was found in her bedroom. Justice Michael Adams described Kain as remorseful and said the incident was entirely out of character.
