Russian teacher stabs best friend to death after arguing over poetry

A Russian school teacher stabbed his best friend to death during an argument about literature, police said. The 53-year-old allegedly knifed his 67-year-old pal after a heated discussion over whether poetry or prose is the better form of writing. The pair, who'd lived together for several months, had been drinking heavily at their home in Irbit when the debate turned nasty. Furious after his friend said that only prose was "real literature," the poetry-lover allegedly picked up a knife and attacked him. The suspected murderer then fled. Cops later found him hiding at another friend's house in a nearby village, reports the BBC. "The literary dispute soon grew into a banal conflict, on the basis of which the 53-year-old admirer of poetry killed his opponent with the help of a knife," a police spokesman said. The suspect has reportedly confessed to the crime and faces 15 years in prison.
