The French photographer's series, 'From Enchantment to Down', includes alternate endings for The Little Mermaid, Cinderella, Snow White, Sleeping Beauty, and other saccharine heroines. But in his re-imagining, the women meet their demise.

Shock as student kills himself in front of dozens on busy campus

Students at a university are reeling in shock after a talented and popular student committed suicide in the middle of a busy campus.

Tobi Lim Sonstroem, 25, from Berwyn, Pennsylvania, shot himself in the head at Temple University, Philadelphia, on Thursday.

Yesterday a makeshift memorial was already at the spot where the aspiring graphic designer took his life in front of dozens of others at one of the busiest spots on the campus.

A mother-of-two nicknamed 'The She-Devil' after being involved in savage unprovoked attacks on two men with her feral teenage children has been jailed for 10 years.

Margaret Gilheaney, 36, was arrested after the first victim, Jordan Daley, was battered with a bottle by her son Joseph, 19, in their 'dirty and smelly' £30,000 terraced property in Accrington, Lancashire.

He needed 51 stitches and was scarred for life following the attack which happened as he celebrated his 18th birthday.

The mother-of-two was then also involved as a father-of-three was stabbed 14 times.

Matthew Howard, 27, thought he was going to die after being attacked by Margaret and her daughter Isabel, 18.

He was dragged out into the alleyway and abandoned. He suffered a collapsed lung, nerve damage and was left disabled.

While he was in hospital he missed the birth of his youngest child three days later when he was in hospital.

Both attacks were meted out for pleasure by the teenage children at separate rowdy parties.

Man Arrested in Death of Pregnant Wife in Monterey Park

MONTEREY PARK (KTLA) -- Sheriff's deputies arrested a San Gabriel Valley Sunday on suspicion of killing his pregnant wife at their home in Monterey Park.

Dispatchers received a call from firefighters Sunday morning reporting a person dead at a home on the 1000 block of Ynez Avenue.

When investigators arrived, they found 39-year-old Chenan Bao's body with suspicious marks on it.

She was three months pregnant, according to authorities.

TOKYO — Police said Monday they have arrested a 26-year-old man on a vehicular manslaughter charge after a hit-and-run that left a woman dead in Tokyo’s Arakawa Ward on Saturday night.

According to police, a car struck Kazuko Motohashi, 62, at a crossing in Minami-senju at about 10:30 Saturday night, TBS reported. The car kept going and the victim was apparently run over by two other vehicles, police said. The third car stopped and its driver called 110 for help.

Fedell Caffey, 39, is appealing his conviction in the 1995 murder of Debra Evans and her 10-year-old daughter, Samantha, in their Addison apartment. He also was convicted of the murder of Evans’ son Joshua, 7, who was initially spared but later killed because he wouldn’t stop talking about the murders.

Philippine quake kills 43

The death toll from a powerful quake that struck the central Philippines on Monday rose to 43 as landslides struck a mountainous area, a regional military official said.

A Wisconsin man everyone thought moved away in 2007 had actually killed himself, leaving his body to rot in his home for more than four years.

The shocking discovery of David Carter's remains came in January after his West Allis house was handed over to the city because of unpaid property taxes, according to the Journal Sentinel newspaper.

The 41-year-old's "nearly skeletonized body" was found on the second floor, according to the medical examiner's report. "A Smith & Wesson 9-mm. handgun was found lying on the decedent's chest," and an autopsy concluded he died from a gunshot wound to the head.

A man had part of his ear bitten off in a "violent" and "unprovoked" attack by two men in a Glasgow fast food outlet.

Police said the 28-year-old man and his friend were in KFC on Renfield Street when they were confronted by three men and a woman at 23:00 on Friday.

Daniela Abreu was a rear-seat passenger in a Chrysler 300 that was driving on the Major Deegan Expressway.

Driver Eduardo Nunez, 30, lost control near the Cross Bronx Expressway interchange at 12.15 am, after zooming down the highway and dangerously switching lanes.

Rock Hill mom, son found severely beaten

York County authorities say a woman and her 16-year-old son were severely beaten at a home in Rock Hill late Wednesday. The boy is in critical condition today at a Charlotte hospital.

Authorities are now searching for the woman's boyfriend, who witnesses say was at the home prior and possibly during the assaults.

A U.S. college student is suing his fraternity after a fellow frat boy allegedly got drunk and shot bottle rockets out of his anus, causing the startled plaintiff to fall off a balcony.

Louis Helmburg III is suing the the Alpha Tau Omega fraternity at Marshall University in Huntington, West Virginia, as well as member Travis Hughes, over drunken misadventures that allegedly occurred at a frat party on May 1, 2011.

"Defendant Hughes was highly intoxicated on this date and time, and decided in a drunken stupor that it would be a good idea to shoot bottle rockets out of his anus on the ATO deck," reads the lawsuit.

A flyer designed by the FBI and the Department of Justice to promote suspicious activity reporting in internet cafes lists basic tools used for online privacy as potential signs of terrorist activity. The document, part of a program called “Communities Against Terrorism”, lists the use of “anonymizers, portals, or other means to shield IP address” as a sign that a person could be engaged in or supporting terrorist activity. The use of encryption is also listed as a suspicious activity along with steganography, the practice of using “software to hide encrypted data in digital photos” or other media. In fact, the flyer recommends that anyone “overly concerned about privacy” or attempting to “shield the screen from view of others” should be considered suspicious and potentially engaged in terrorist activities.

Logging into an account associated with a residential internet service provider (such as Comcast or AOL), an activity that could simply indicate that you are on a trip, is also considered a suspicious activity. Viewing any content related to “military tactics” including manuals or “revolutionary literature” is also considered a potential indicator of terrorist activity. This would mean that viewing a number of websites, including the one you are on right now, could be construed by a hapless employee as an highly suspicious activity potentially linking you to terrorism.

The “Potential Indicators of Terrorist Activities” contained in the flyer are not to be construed alone as a sign of terrorist activity and the document notes that “just because someone’s speech, actions, beliefs, appearance, or way of life is different; it does not mean that he or she is suspicious.” However, many of the activities described in the document are basic practices of any individual concerned with security or privacy online. The use of PGP, VPNs, Tor or any of the many other technologies for anonymity and privacy online are directly targeted by the flyer, which is distributed to businesses in an effort to promote the reporting of these activities.

Douglas Binet jailed for murdering and dismembering man

A drug dealer has been jailed for life for murdering a father whose severed arms were found in a lake in Essex.

Douglas Binet, 54, appearing at Chelmsford Crown Court, was told he would serve at least 20 years for murdering Anthony Whitefield, 47.

Mr Whitefield's severed arms were found in a lake in Buckhurst Hill.

His torso and legs were discovered by police in Binet's rear garden in Hanson Drive, Loughton, but his head has never been found.

Mr Whitefield, a father of five, was reported missing by his daughter on 10 February, 2011.

Teen fatally shot by Calumet City police was autistic

A 15-year-old boy suffering from Asperger’s syndrome was shot dead by police Wednesday after he slashed an officer with a knife in the basement of his parents’ home.

The father of Stephon E. Watts called police for help with his son to their Calumet City home about 8:30 a.m. after the boy became upset and did not want to go to school.

People with Asperger’s often have normal or high intelligence, but struggle with social skills.

Wednesday’s incident was the 12th time police had responded to a domestic disturbance at the home, 10 of them involving the teen, Calumet City police said.

When officers arrived and went down to the basement, Watts suddenly appeared and made slashing strikes at the officers with a knife, the release said.

With nowhere to go, one officer suffered a defensive wound — a cut to the left forearm. That’s when two other officers on the scene fired one shot each, both hitting Watts, the release said.

He was taken to St. Margaret Mercy Healthcare in Hammond, Ind., where he later died. The Lake County (Ind.) Coroner’s office confirmed the death, but would not comment further.

Tyree Lincoln Smith, 35, stared blankly as he stood with his hands chained behind his back during his arraignment in Bridgeport Superior Court on a murder charge for the December killing of Andre Gonzalez.

Police in Bridgeport said Smith was covered in blood when he told his cousin about the murder, after developing a lust for blood he needed to satiate after eating a rare steak.

Superior Court Judge Earl Richards set Smith's bond at $1million at the urging of prosecutors, who described the crime as 'extremely heinous'.

A flesh-eating form of pneumonia that is easily passed between healthy people on public transport is spreading across the UK, experts have warned.

The deadly strain of MRSA called USA300 passes easily through skin-to-skin contact. It can also survive on surfaces and so has the potential to be picked up on crowded buses and tubes.

Tragedy of two 20-year-old women who crawled from wreckage of crashed car only to be crushed to death by another vehicle

Two friends crawled to safety from the wreckage of their crashed car - only to be mown down and killed as they waited for help, an inquest has heard.

Jade Srawley and Amelia Ecob, both 20, from Coalville, Leicestershire, were travelling in Jade’s car when they were hit by a van swerving in front of them as he turned right.

Their Renault Twingo then clipped a third vehicle, a Ford Focus, but they were able to to free themselves from the wreckage at around 8pm on January 27 last year.

But as they stood at the side of the dark road a Toyota Rav 4 came round the bend and careered into their car, crushing them to death between it and the van.

A pedestrian died Tuesday evening after he reportedly stepped into traffic and was struck by multiple vehicles on U.S. Highway 101 near Fields Landing.

JOPLIN, Mo. — The uncle who challenged 11-year-old Tyler Fecko to a drinking game that led to the Joplin boy’s death pleaded guilty today to murder and child-endangerment charges.

Bear attack was 'like a slaughterhouse'

A Swedish hunter, attacked and mauled by a fully grown bear over the weekend, woke in hospital on Tuesday.

“It was as bloody as a slaughterhouse,” the man's brother, arriving first on the scene, told the Aftonbladet paper.

Per Hedberg, 55, had been hunting with his brother in Bollnäs, eastern Sweden, when the bear awoke from hibernation and attacked him.

The hunter managed to free himself from the bear with a shot, wounding the animal, and then make a mobile phone call to his brother who was nearby, according to newspaper.

His brother had already heard the shot from afar when he received the call.

“I’ve been bitten by a bear. Now I’m dying,” his brother said to him.

Police gave orders for the bear to be tracked and killed, and the municipality’s specialist hunter with the help of local hunting teams succeeded to fell him on Sunday.

Nathaniel Brown, 27, killed Zandra Maxwell-Nelson, 24, outside his sister's home in Durban Road, Tottenham, north London in April 2011.

Brown stabbed her up to 20 times in what one witness called a "methodical" manner, the Old Bailey heard.

The defendant, of Finchley, north London, had denied murder, blaming the killing on depression.

A 33-year-old would-be Jedi Knight has been jailed for 45 days for attacking toy store customers and policemen with a toy lightsaber.

Judge Kenneth Walker handed David Canterbury a 45-day jail sentence, after he pleaded no contest to charges of assault and resisting arrest.

It would seem even the mighty Taser was no match for a humble plastic lightsaber after the man managed to fend off officers as they tried to arrest him inside the store.

Thugs post video of themselves beating 14-year-old schoolmate on Facebook... and it gets 25 'Likes'

Two teenagers who attacked one of their schoolmates are likely to face justice after they filmed themselves beating the other boy and posted the footage on Facebook.

The horrific video received a warm welcome from the teens' friends, however - more than 25 of them clicked the 'Like' button on the post.

But the mother of the victim has urged officials to take action against the other boys, saying their decision to post the evidence of their apparent wrongdoing 'wasn't smart'.

A Muslim teenager was kidnapped and beaten by her own siblings after they caught her kissing a white man, a court heard today.

Shamima Akhtar, 18, was allegedly bundled into a car and taken home before being beaten by her two older sisters, Nadiya, 25, and Nazira, 29, and brother Kayum Mohammed-Abdul, 24.

Winchester Crown Court heard they called Shamima 'a whore and a prostitute and then cut her waist-length hair up to her neck after they saw her kissing a white man, Gary Pain, in the car park of a restaurant in Basingstoke, Hampshire, on April 1 last year.
