A gunman blasted his girlfriend repeatedly in the back before holding their four-year-old twins hostage in a flat, police said today.
Armed police laid siege to the building in Dallas, Texas, after reports of a man opening fire on his common law wife.
Six shots were heard before the woman, named as 32-year-old Maria Martinez, staggered out and raised the alarm.
