A 12-year-old girl drowned along with her mother and stepfather, after they took her for a swim in a freezing cold local pond at 3am.
Kenny Jordan, 30, his wife Heather Jordan, 33, and her 12-year-old daughter Nikki Simpkins, suffered hypothermia after getting into water, just 43F (6C), near Deep River Pointe, North Carolina.
Two other youngsters, including Jordan's 12-year-old nephew, also went into the pond, but got out immediately because they found it too cold. Another went to the pond but did not get into the water.
