The UN's Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs said today that eight bodies have been found and more than 50 other people who were aboard are feared dead.
The boats contained Rohingya who were living in camps in Myanmar's Rakhine state after fleeing sectarian violence last year. They were seeking higher ground ahead of Cyclone Mahasen.
James Munn, an official with the UN office, said up to five boats left Pauktaw township late yesterday. He said reports indicate that one of the boats was towing the others and hit a rock, causing all to capsize.

"He who can, does. He who cannot, teaches."
"Being is substance and life; life manifests by movement; movement is perpetuated by equilibrium; equilibrium is therefore the law of immortality.
"The doctrine of equality!... But there exists no more poisonous poison: for it seems to be preached by justice itself, while it is the end of justice.... "Equality for equals, inequality for unequals" that would be the true voice of justice: and, what follows from it, "Never make equal what is unequal."
