A suburban New Orleans family is shattered after a young relative was arrested and charged with stabbing his 6-year-old step-cousin and then dumping her body in a trash can near her home.
Matthew Flugence, 20, was arrested late Tuesday and charged in the brutal killing of Ahlittia North, of Harvey, his uncle's stepdaughter whom Flugence himself often babysat, the local Times Picayune reported.
Flugence was armed with a knife when Jefferson Parish Sherriff's deputies picked him up walking along an expressway in nearby Westwego at around 10 p.m. Tuesday.
