A four-year-old boy died when he was crushed by a horse on his family's farm.
The child, named locally as Matthew Young, was on the farm near Lesmahagow in South Lanarkshire when the tragedy took place on Thursday.
Reports today suggest the boy's mother Margaret witnessed the horrific turn of events. It is unknown whether his father John was also there.
It is thought the boy was standing near a show jump when the horse lost its balance and fell on the child.

"He who can, does. He who cannot, teaches."
"Being is substance and life; life manifests by movement; movement is perpetuated by equilibrium; equilibrium is therefore the law of immortality.
"The doctrine of equality!... But there exists no more poisonous poison: for it seems to be preached by justice itself, while it is the end of justice.... "Equality for equals, inequality for unequals" that would be the true voice of justice: and, what follows from it, "Never make equal what is unequal."
