Hearing held for parents accused of binding, blindfolding kids they believed possessed by demons

Two children found bound and blindfolded on sheets of cardboard outside a Kansas Walmart parking lot were the intended subjects of a demon exorcism to be performed by their family, a police officer testified at a preliminary hearing Tuesday. Lawrence police officer Hayden Fowler testified that a female sibling of the two bound children informed him the family — including parents parents Deborah Gomez, 44, and Adolfo Gomez Jr., 52 — believed there were demons in the parking lot outside their broken-down SUV as well as in their Illinois home, according to the Associated Press. According to Fowler’s testimony, the family had also reportedly viewed videos on the internet about “a fallen angel” and demons. They believed demons had “overtaken” the young children’s bodies and that the death of the demons would mean the death of the children, according to Fowler’s testimony. The sibling told Fowler that the family planned to exorcise the demons, but she did not say how.
