Heroin addict ‘hog-tied man, 62, gagged him and battered him to death with a brick in his own home during botched burglary'

A heroin addict bound and gagged a burglary victim before battering him to death with a brick, a court heard. Phillip Haslam, 36, repeatedly targeted the home of John Kiernan and in September last year bludgeoned him and left him to die in a brutal attack, jurors were told. Kiernan's corpse was not discovered for more than two weeks.
