A mother who punched and kicked her daughter, nine, for 17 months until she eventually died has been sentenced to spend at least 15 years in prison for her death. Crystal Cardenas, 27, from San Diego, pleaded guilty last month to second-degree murder. Her daughter Elizabeth died in hospital after receiving a fatal punch and kick to her stomach. Deputy District Attorney Lindsey Krause said Elizabeth Holloway was choked, punched, kicked, burned and thrown to the ground during the time she lived with her mother.
