A businessman hatched an elaborate plot to kill a retired police officer after becoming obsessed with his wife, a court heard. Ex-cop John Hay, 61, was allegedly killed with his body burned on a bonfire by 63-year-old Kenneth Bill, who had restarted a relationship with Mr Hay’s wife after dating her over 40 years previously. A jury was told that Carol Hay realised her mistake and told Bill it was over but prosecutors say he convinced himself there could be a permanent relationship if Mr Hay was out of the way.
