Killer copied torture scene from horror film Saw by slicing through victim’s spinal cord to make him reveal his PIN number

A killer who mimicked a torture scene from the notorious horror film Saw by chopping through his victim's spine was jailed for at least 30 years today. Matthew Tinling, 25, knifed former soldier neighbour Richard Hamilton 17 times in the head, neck and legs in a 'savage and prolonged' murder. At the climax of the frenzied attack, he aped a brutal moment from the famed horror franchise by trying to sever the 45-year-old's spinal cord. Tinling tortured Mr Hamilton to get him to hand over the PIN for his bank account and later withdrew £240 to spend on crack cocaine.
