As children across Chicago dreamed of Santa in the early hours of Christmas morning, something unspeakable was happening in the basement of a North Side apartment building, authorities say.
And when police responded to a 911 call at the home in the 2500 block of North Kildare shortly after 2 a.m., they made a grisly discovery: the mutilated, decapitated body of a 41-year-old man.
