Student Who Threatened Moorpark High Kills Himself on Train Tracks

A 16-year-old student who triggered a lockdown at Moorpark High School on Thursday after leaving a threatening later killed himself by stepping in front of an Amtrak train, authorities said. The Ventura County Sheriff’s Department received a 911 call from the school at 8:20 a.m. saying someone had found a letter the student had left on campus, said Capt. Don Aguilar. The contents of the note were not made public, but did prompt school officials to take immediate action. Moorpark High was evacuated and nearby schools were also locked down. Notifications were sent to parents, advising them to pick up their children early from school, officials said. Sixty-nine deputies were at the scene, along with a bomb squad and a K-9 unit, and a sweep of the campus was being conducted, according to the Sheriff’s Department. During the campus search authorities were notified that body was found on train tracks located about a mile north of the school. The teenager was pronounced dead at the scene.
