British killer Simon Hennessey captured in Australia after 15 years on the run

Fifteen years after escaping from a prison in Gloucestershire, a British killer has been captured in a small town in Queensland by local police who believe he used false names to commit elaborate frauds while roaming across Thailand, Malaysia, New Zealand and Australia. Simon Hennessey, 49, from Plymouth, was just 14 when he repeatedly stabbed his 72-year-old aunt, Mary Webber, in a frenzied attack which caused widespread shock. The teenager was convicted of manslaughter and made numerous escape attempts before finally walking out of an open prison in Gloucestershire, just before Christmas in 1998. He now faces now faces jail in Queensland – or the prospect of being extradited back to Britain.
