Decorated firefighter, 48, 'kills himself' after police launch inquiry into sex abuse allegations

A long-serving firefighter is believed to have killed himself hours after being questioned by police investigating an alleged sex abuse scandal. Martin Sibley, 48, was found dead at his home in Colchester, Essex, just hours after being interviewed by police. The father-of-two is believed to have been one of a number of people questioned by police investigating historical allegations of sex abuse within Essex County Fire and Rescue Service dating back to the 1970s and 80s. It is not known why Mr Sibley, who worked for the fire service for 24 years, was being interviewed about the allegations. Sources claim the investigation related to wild 'initiation ceremonies' in which new recruits were stripped naked and assaulted using a feather duster.
