Cyclist, 20, crushed to death by lorry with faulty indicator after it pulled across her path at busy junction

A young cyclist was crushed to death by a lorry with a faulty indicator when it pulled across her path at a busy junction, a coroner ruled. Paula Jurek, 20, was on her way to university when she was hit by a lorry as it made a left turn at a busy central London junction. Witnesses told St Pancras Coroner's Court yesterday that they didn't see the lorry driver indicate before making the turn. Immediately after the accident the lorry, driven by Barry Roe, was examined and found to have a loose bulb in one of its left side indicators. Road traffic collision investigator Paul Deneyes told the inquest: 'It wasn't that it was broken as such, it was that the bulb wasn't fitted correctly. 'It's possible that a cyclist travelling on the near side of the lorry may not have known it was making a left turn because they could not see the indicator.'
