YOKOHAMA —
Police said Tuesday they have arrested a 45-year-old man for allegedly murdering his father with an icepick at their home in Yokohama.
According to police, Yuichi Sakamoto is accused of smashing his 72-year-old father’s skull with a hammer before stabbing him in the chest and abdomen with an ice pick while he slept at around 4 a.m. Monday, TBS reported. Sakamoto dialed 119 to report what he had done. The victim, who has been named as Hiroshi Sakamoto, was taken to a nearby hospital where he was confirmed dead.
Police said Sakamoto has confessed to his father’s murder but has so far not given a motive.
