Long Island murder suspect Maxwell Sherman says he was ‘amazed’ to hear about Lauren Daverin's murder

An 18-year-old man charged with killing a young woman on Long Island told a television crew a day before his arrest that he met the victim for “like five minutes” and was “amazed” to hear about the murder. Maxwell Sherman of Long Beach, L.I., returned to the scene of the crime on Friday and told a WCBS-TV crew that he was part of a group that was hanging out with Lauren Daverin, also 18, at a soccer field Thursday night. Police said Daverin’s body — naked except for a pair of boots — was found that night on a nearby footbridge in Rockville Centre. She was strangled, authorities said. Sherman, who is unemployed and living with his parents, denied the killing at his court appearance on Sunday. He was charged with second-degree murder.
