Serial sex attacker tried to rape woman at knifepoint as she walked her Labrador - after he was allowed to work in the community while serving life sentence

A serial sex attacker serving a life sentence for seven assaults on women and girls has been found guilty of trying to rape a female dog walker while working in the community. Nicky Suddons, 26, who was dubbed the Yellow Brick Road rapist after the area where he carried out his attacks, was described as highly dangerous when he was first jailed. Despite this, he was deemed safe enough by the Parole Board to be let out of North Sea Camp open prison near Boston, Lincolnshire, for a work placement where he was painting and decorating a church in Grantham. During a lunch break he took a 'rape kit' that included a balaclava, rubber gloves, condoms, and a Stanley knife. He lay in wait for the woman who was out walking her labrador in a wooded area of Queen Elizabeth Park, Boston.

Describing the attack she told a jury at Lincoln Crown Court she fell to the ground and screamed after she turned and saw a masked man with a knife. 'My eyes were fixed on the knife and the mask,' she said. 'His thumb was on the Stanley knife as if the blade was ready to be flicked.' The woman was saved when her dog lunged at Suddons who then fled but was stopped when a cyclist caught up with him and returned him to the scene. Prosecutor David Outterside said that Suddons carefully planned the attack and hoped his rape kit would help him avoid the mistakes he made which led to his arrest for the 2004 offences. He said the gloves and condom were to ensure Suddons deposited no DNA and the balaclava was to hide his identity. 'What was on his mind was rape. This time he was prepared and was absolutely determined not to be caught. He thought he could get clean away with it but he was caught red-handed.'
