A 22-year-old Las Vegas man was arrested after he murdered his family's dog, Serenity.
Jeremy Espiritu told police he killed the black Labrador mix with a six-inch serrated knife because he "wanted to."
"I like to hurt dogs," he told the officer, according to a police report obtained by the Las Vegas Review-Journal.
The report said that Espiritu's stepfather, who works at night and was taking a nap Thursday afternoon, was woken up by what sounded like "a child or dog screaming as if they were in pain."
He discovered Serenity in a puddle of blood, but she was still breathing.
Police asked dispatchers to call Las Vegas Animal Control when they arrived on the scene, but Animal Control did not immediately respond.
