The lockdown put in place this evening at Wingate University near to Charlotte, North Carolina after two people were shot dead and a third airlifted to hospital has been lifted.
Union County Sheriff's officials issued an 'all clear' at the university around 8.45 pm, nearly two and a half hours after the 'shelter in place' warning was first issued.
The deadly shooting occurred along E. Wilson Street which is near the entrance to the campus at around 6 pm and two people were confirmed dead at the scene - and authorities indicated that no University students or employees were believed to be involved.
