TOKYO —
Police in Tokyo said Thursday they have arrested a 63-year-old man over the death of a 52-year-old woman with whom he was having a relationship.
According to police, Etsuo Nakamura was charged with strangling Manami Sugiyama at her apartment in Minato Ward on the night of March 2.
TV Asahi reported that police arrested Nakamura, who had fled in Sugiyama’s car, on Wednesday afternoon in Shizuoka Prefecture. Police said Nakamura has confessed to the murder, saying he strangled Sugiyama from behind with a scarf.
Sugiyama ran a bar and when she didn’t show up for two days, the bar manager asked police to visit her apartment to see if she was alright.
