The driver was heading down a country road on Thursday evening near the French-Belgian border when he almost hit the deer. The driver swerved to avoid hitting the animal, lost the control of his vehicle and crashed into a ditch. The driver was unharmed.
But the police officers and firemen who rushed to the site were bemused. The deer was still there, bumbling across the road. They surrounded him in the central reservation on the road and noticed the deer clearly seemed under the weather - stumbling and disoriented.
It later emerged the deer was drunk after consuming one too many spring buds - a common cause of deer inebriation in spring.

Teens get stabbed in footwear fight
Two teen girls are recovering from stab wounds after getting into a fight over shoes at an Australian mall.
Queensland police said the girls were both shopping in the same store at a mall in Robina — located in Queensland, 80 km south of Brisbane — Thursday around 7:45 p.m. when they got in a fight.
Witnesses told the Courier-Mail newspaper the 17-year-old girl pulled a knife after she and the 16-year-old girl started fighting over a pair of shoes. Both girls were stabbed in the struggle.

14 dismembered bodies dumped in Mexico
MEXICO CITY -- Fourteen dismembered bodies were found in a truck in the centre of a town in northern Mexico on Thursday in what appeared to be the latest atrocity committed by rival gangs battling over drug-smuggling routes, local media said.
The bodies of 11 men and three women were discovered in the sugar-cane farming town of Ciudad Mante in the south of Tamaulipas state, which borders on Texas, daily Milenio reported on its website. Officials at the state attorney general’s office could not immediately confirm the report.

A Louisiana man was arrested, handcuffed and shackled after allegedly biting a chunk out of a man's face during an attempted robbery, according to an affidavit.
Carl Jacquneaux, 42, showed up at his ex-wife's house June 2 - in violation of an order of protection she had taken out against him - and attacked Todd Credeur, her current husband. Jacquneaux repeatedly bit Credeur’s face, "removing flesh the size of a quarter," the affidavit said.

Man Kills Ex After 15 Years, Then Dies of Heart Attack
SIMI VALLEY, Calif. (KTLA) -- Simi Valley police say that a former boyfriend of retired English teacher Janice Somple stabbed her to death, then suffered a fatal heart attack when he fled the scene.
Det. Sgt. Randy Foushee of the Simi Valley Police Department identified the suspect as Paul Porter.
Porter died following a traffic collision on May 31 in the area of Madera Road in Simi Valley.

Twin suicide bombings in Afghanistan's Kandahar kill 20 civilians
KANDAHAR, Afghanistan (Reuters) - A pair of suicide bombers struck outside NATO's biggest base in southern Afghanistan on Wednesday, killing 20 civilians and wounding 50, officials said, in one of the bloodiest attacks in recent weeks.

Public health officials have linked two deaths in Utah to hantavirus in the past month, an unusually high rate for the rodent-borne disease that isn’t always fatal.
The two victims — one in Millard County and another in Salt Lake County — had been exposed to rodents in the two to three weeks prior to their deaths, according to Utah Department of Health epidemiologist JoDee Baker.
“We get maybe one case a year,” Baker said Tuesday. “It’s unusual to see two fatalities so early in the summer.”

A 70-year-old Savannah-area landlord has been arrested and charged with multiple offenses after police said he shot and killed a dog that bit him.

JAKARTA — Indonesian police on Tuesday arrested a construction worker suspected of suffocating a Japanese woman because he was “annoyed” at being scolded over his work on renovations at her home.
Toni Hidayat, 39, suffocated 67-year-old Setsuko Itawa with duct tape at her Jakarta home on Sunday, East Jakarta police chief Saidal Mursalin told reporters.

The man, who is on a visit to Stockholm, was “heavily intoxicated” early Saturday morning and couldn’t find his way back to his hotel room, wrote the Aftonbladet newspaper.
After a time, he gave up looking and chose to sleep on a bench in Kronoberg park, in Kungsholmen in Stockholm’s west side.

Five bodies burned beyond recognition have been found inside the shell of a charred sport utility vehicle in the Arizona desert.
Authorities say the dead bodies and vehicle found on Saturday in the Vekol Valley, a rugged, mountainous desert area, is likely connected to drug cartel violence.
The bodies were so badly burned that investigators couldn't immediately determine their gender or ethnicity.

Parents who force their children into marriage to face up to five years in jail in new crackdown
Families who coerce their children into a forced marriage could face up to five years in jail under legislation to be announced by the Prime Minister this week.
The new law will criminalise the practice, which occurs in some ethnic communities. Forcing someone into wedlock would become a criminal offence in its own right under the proposals.

A 17-year-old girl was found hanging dead from a tree near Stockholm on Thursday in what police initially thought was a suicide but which is now being investigated as a murder.

A Pennsylvania man pleaded guilty to abandoning his teenage daughter, reportedly because of a bad calculus grade.
Cops were called to an intersection in Cheltenham, Pa., on Feb. 22 by people who said a child was asking strangers for a place to stay, the Ambler Gazette newspaper reported.
Authorities said that, after an argument at home about the 16-year-old girl's grades, her father told her she had an hour to pack and that she couldn't live with her family anymore.

“To have a record of everywhere you go and everything you do would be a frightening thing,” Stanley, senior policy analyst at the American Civil Liberties Union, told the Daily News.
He warned of a “check-point society” where everyone carries an internal passport and has to show their papers at every turn, he said.
“Once we let the government and businesses go down the road of nosing around in our lives...we’re going to quickly lose all our privacy,” said Stanley.
There are already, and increasingly, ways to electronically track people. Since 2006, new U.S. passports include radio frequency identification tags (RFID) that store all the information in the passport, plus a digital picture of the owner.

Bear Eats Corpse Of Convicted Murderer
CNN) -- A bear ate the corpse of a convicted killer in a wooded area of Canada, according to authorities.
The mauled body of Rory Nelson Wagner, 53, was found in a rural area in southern British Columbia on Wednesday evening, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police said.
Police believe Wagner was already dead in a 1986 Volkswagen Jetta when the black bear broke into the vehicle, ate some parts of him and dragged the rest of the body away.

GIFU — Police said Saturday they have arrested a man on suspicion of dumping the body of his ex-lover in the woods.
The man, who has been named as 60-year-old design company manager Katsumi Ando, is believed to have invited kindergarten teacher Yoko Matsui out for a drink on May 7, following which she disappeared.
Her body was found on May 12 in a mountainside forest around 30 meters downhill of the road. According to police, Matsui had been stabbed in the chest and her body dumped in the forest in Mizunami, Fuji reported.

Police say six people gathered at the Lakesland property in early May and only five left. It is alleged two of them - a man and a woman - murdered 33-year-old Colleen Deborah Ayers, whose parents owned the home.
Police say Ms Ayers died a violent death. Police were called last week when her parents arrived home from a three-week holiday to find their daughter missing and at least one gun stolen.
Officers arrived and a search of the property revealed that the woman's body had been buried in a grave.

And they knew he was upset about a break-in at his house earlier this week, when burglars took some expensive shotguns and other items. He suspected his new next door neighbor.
According to a criminal complaint filed Friday: As 13-year-old Darius Simmons was moving a garbage cart from the curb Thursday morning, Spooner, 75, confronted him and demanded the boy give back his stuff and the shotguns.
Darius told him he didn't have his stuff. The boy's mother chimed in, telling Spooner he should just go back inside.
Then suddenly, as the mother watched, Spooner raised a black handgun and shot Darius in the chest from five feet away.
Darius ran around the cor ner and collapsed on Comstock Ave., about 10 feet from a small play area marked "Children's Park."
As he ran, Spooner fired a second shot that did not hit the boy. When police arrived, Spooner was still on the sidewalk, holding the gun.
When told to drop the weapon, he placed it on the ground and told police, "Yeah, I shot him."

A teenage girl and her male accomplice put a man with learning difficulties in intensive care after shooting him in the head with a BB gun 20 times during a brutal attack.
The 36-year-old victim, an epileptic, was also burnt with a cigarette lighter, cut with a broken mirror shard, hit with a wooden baluster, kicked and punched.
He suffered a brain haemorrhage, multiple wounds to his scalp, blood clots and bruises across his body from the attack in a Tyne and Wear guest house.

3 New Jersey high school students charged in teen’s suicide
MORRISTOWN, N.J. — A New Jersey high school freshman killed himself three weeks after being assaulted, robbed and threatened by other students, authorities said Wednesday as they publicized criminal charges against the youths.
Morris County Prosecutor Robert Bianchi said the teen, 15-year-old Lennon Baldwin, was terrorized by two students and pressured at one point to tell Morristown High School officials that he had not been assaulted, but was merely the victim of a prank.
"This case again underscores our need as a society to eradicate the bullying of our youth, as regrettable consequences such as this case are far too numerous to be anywhere near acceptable," Bianchi said.

Boy, 8, electrocuted in Galveston County
HOUSTON (KTRK) -- An 8-year-old boy was electrocuted in Galveston County Thursday.
The incident happened about 8:35pm in the town of Algoa. A LifeFlight helicopter airlifted the boy to Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston where he was pronounced dead.
