A Meskwaki Nation police detective says their bodies were found Wednesday night by another son, Tyler Lasley, who also recovered a bloody machete. The arrest complaint says a Tama County sheriff's deputy found Gordon Lasley Jr. driving his mother's vehicle early Thursday. The 25-year-old was described as having blood on his clothes and the vehicle from cuts to his hands. Lasley has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder. He is due back in court February 14. According to a criminal complaint, the suspect used a machete to murder his parents in their home on Meskawaki Road at around 9pm Wednesday. When his brother Tyler stopped by to visit his parents two hours later, he discovered his mother's body in the basement and his father lying dead in the living room, police said.

HIROSHIMA — A 30-year-old unemployed woman was sentenced to eight years in prison by the Hiroshima District Court Tuesday for fatally beating her 11-year-old daughter with a golf club at their home in Fuchu, Hiroshima Prefecture, in October 2012. The court heard that the defendant, Asato Horiuchi, beat her daughter Yuma with a golf club in the morning, Fuji TV reported. While she was driving her daughter over to her parents’ house in the afternoon, Yuma lost consciousness and Horiuchi stopped at a police koban for help.

The girl was taken to hospital where she was pronounced dead a short time later. According to the Hiroshima prefectural government’s child welfare division, Horiuchi and her mother abused Yuma in February 2009. At that time, officials placed Yuma in a children’s institution where she remained for two years until her mother took custody of her again last year. Horiuchi told police she got angry because her daughter lied to her. A California man has been found guilty of murdering his 30-year-old girlfriend and living with her body in his apartment for two weeks. A jury convicted Santa Cruz resident John Bruce Clauer, 66, following a three-week trial after only four hours of deliberation. Clauer now faces up to 25 years in prison for the murder of Heather Stearns, 30. 'We were extremely pleased that they (the jury) were not out very long, and we were extremely pleased with the verdict,' prosecutor Jeff Rosell told the Santa Cruz Sentinel outside court. Clauer reportedly sighed and was reprimanded for outbursts during the trial, but faced the verdict stoically. Jury foreman Conrado Montes, 71, told the Sentinal that testimony from Clauer's neighbors and ex-girlfriends during the trial 'was like seeing one of those really bad horror movies.'

Clauer's neighbors and ex-girlfriends testified during the trial, as well as police, the Santa Cruz County coroner and others. 'He [Clauer] was slowly building up this hatred [for Stearns]. He was like a time bomb. It all came to a halt one night.' The jury heard how Stearns was strangled and stomped to death in Clauer's apartment near the San Lorenzo Rivermouth in April 2011. The Sentinal reports that Stearns was an alcoholic whose dependency had taken over her life. She lived with Clauer because he provided her with a place to stay and booze. According to neighbors, the couple argued regularly and the sounds of Clauer's vicious beating of Stearns was nothing unusual, so they turned up the television and did not notify police. It wasn't until a strong odor emanating from Clauer's apartment two weeks later led the neighbors to investigate. The obtained keys from the building manager and entered the apartment. They discovered Stearns' corpse, wrapped in blankets on a bed.

Oita woman arrested over death of 7-year-old son

OITA — Police in Oita have arrested a 40-year-old woman over the death of her 7-year-old son. According to police, the woman, identified as Noriko Okada, killed her son Koki sometime between midnight and 2 a.m. on Friday. NTV reported that Okada’s husband called 119, saying that Koki was unconscious and bleeding from the mouth. When an ambulance arrived, Koki was in a state of cardiopulmonary arrest. He was confirmed dead shortly after at a hospital. Police said there were strangulation marks on the boy’s neck and that Okada had admitted to killing her son, but has so far given no motive. OKAYAMA — Police said Friday they have charged a 51-year-old woman with murder after she allegedly strangled to death her 8-year-old daughter at their home in Kibichuo, Okayama Prefecture, on Jan 14. According to police, the woman, identified as Chizuru Kojima, used a towel to strangle her daughter Miori after she had returned home from her special needs school that day, Fuji TV reported. Police said that after killing her daughter, Kojima then went into the kitchen and inflicted several life-threatening wounds on herself with a sharp knife. The girl and her mother were found in their apartment at around 5:40 p.m. They were rushed to the hospital immediately, but the girl was pronounced dead upon arrival. Three dead, 30 missing after fire at Quebec seniors' home

L'ILE-VERTE, Que. — Three people are dead and 30 are missing after fire tore through a seniors' home in eastern Quebec on Thursday. The blaze broke out around 12:30 a.m. at the Residence du Havre, home to about 60 people. Firefighters and paramedics rushed to the small town about 230 km northeast of Quebec City. According to one of the first paramedics on scene, rescuers had to move quickly once it became clear they were dealing with an inferno. "The police and the firefighters evacuated the people, we took them into our arms and brought them to our vehicles for warmth," Harold Lemelin told QMI Agency.

"We even had a patient who had thrown himself from an upper floor to save himself from the flames." TORONTO - Jurors looked at police photographs and watched video of bloody handprints of a university criminology student whose throat was slit before a killer set her ablaze. Carina Petrache, 23, left a trail of blood as she raced from the basement of her Huron St. home and into the kitchen where she collapsed. In her opening to the jury Monday, Crown attorney Jennifer Stanton said accused murderer Farshad “Shawn” Badakhshan, who was dating Petrache, trapped her in his basement bedroom by lighting a fire on July 2, 2010.

Badakhshan, 31, who has pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder, contends he’s not criminally responsible because he was suffering from a mental disorder at the time. The Crown showed police video and photographs of the charred basement — where much of the blood had been washed away by firefighters. They extinguished four fires set by the accused and diluted the bloody stains on the bedding. The accused man was also caught in the fire and lost a leg, most of his ears and has a disfigured face, court heard. But the victim’s bloody handprints on the door, the bannister and walls remained intact since the fire hoses never sprayed those areas.
