Husband, 50, knifed wife to death after she told him their marriage was over because she had fallen in love with saxophonist in her jazz band

A husband stabbed his wife to death at home after she told him their marriage was over, a court heard today. Heather Arthur, 50, had fallen in love with the saxophonist in a jazz band she sung with and decided to leave her partner of 30 years, Mark Arthur, also 50, a jury was told. Last April Mrs Arthur returned to the couple's Gosforth home after doing the school run and was stabbed in the heart when she told her husband their marriage was over, the prosecution say. After killing Mrs Arthur, Mr Arthur went to his doctor's surgery nearby wearing boxer shorts and a top, bursting in on his GP and saying he had hurt his wife. The 50-year-old has pleaded guilty to manslaughter but denies murder on the grounds of loss of control.
