Newborn killed by Long Island housekeeper mom, stuffed in trash, police say

A Long Island housekeeper was accused Thursday of killing her newborn baby in the waterfront mansion where she works, stuffing the child in a plastic bag and throwing the infant in the garbage. Santos Elena Ruiz Solano, 28, of Central Islip, was arrested on a charge of second-degree murder after she showed up at a hospital suffering from complications from childbirth, Suffolk County police said. Detectives say they believe Ruiz Solano gave birth to a girl on Sunday inside the sprawling home at 40 Shoal Dr. in West Islip, where she worked as a live-in housekeeper. “The baby suffered traumatic injuries shortly after her birth and died at the scene,” police said in a statement Thursday. “Ruiz Solano then placed the baby in a plastic bag and left the home.”
