Sleepy village left in shock as pensioner held after wife, 70, is found strangled

A village has been left in shock after an elderly farmer was arrested on suspicion of strangling his wife in their farmhouse. Grandmother Julia Thurgarland, 70, was found dead on Friday afternoon. Her 71-year-old husband Peter was arrested at the scene but was badly injured and had to be taken to Lincoln Hospital. He has yet to be questioned by officers and remains in a serious but stable condition. Police have not revealed the nature of her husband’s injuries or how they were incurred.
