A jail riot in south-western Venezuela has killed dozens of people, local media reports, in the latest incident in the nation's ongoing crowded prison crisis. Violence broke out on Friday (local time) after news of an inspection to confiscate weapons at the Centro Occidental jail, prisons minister Iris Varela said in a statement, without providing a death toll. Local media reports say between 26 and 54 people have been killed and dozens wounded. A prisons ministry source told Reuters that "many" had been killed, including one national guard officer, but declined to offer more details. The source said the ministry would hold a news conference on Saturday with details.

"He who can, does. He who cannot, teaches."
"Being is substance and life; life manifests by movement; movement is perpetuated by equilibrium; equilibrium is therefore the law of immortality.
"The doctrine of equality!... But there exists no more poisonous poison: for it seems to be preached by justice itself, while it is the end of justice.... "Equality for equals, inequality for unequals" that would be the true voice of justice: and, what follows from it, "Never make equal what is unequal."
