Man ‘shoots dead three women’ and then walks out of apartment block clutching baby before handing it to police and turning gun on himself

A man suspected of killing three women in an apartment block shot himself dead in front of police officers after letting a 13-month-old child go free. Police were called to Dye House Apartments, in the Hartford suburb of Manchester, Connecticut, at 9.40pm on Saturday after reports of gunshots. An armed man was seen leaving the building carrying the child as officers arrived at the scene, according to a statement by Manchester police Captain Christopher Davis. During a brief confrontation with officers, the man put down the child before shooting himself, the officer said. The child appeared to be unharmed but was taken to a hospital to be examined. An officer also fired one shot at the man but apparently missed, Davis said. Police then searched the building and found three woman who had been fatally shot in one of the apartments.
