An indie rock musician recently booted from his group killed three bandmates and wounded another in East Williamsburg early Monday before going to the roof and shooting himself, police said. The gunman and his victims were members of an Iranian rock band, The Yellow Dogs, which formed in Tehran in 2006 and called Brooklyn home, according to their Wikipedia page. The shooter was found dead on the roof from a single blast from a .308-caliber rifle, apparently fired from the bottom of his chin, a source said.

Allegedly drunk driver kills three as he speeds through license checkpoint

Troopers say three people have died in a crash in Harnett County after the driver of a pickup truck sped away from a license checkpoint. in Buies Creek, NC. The North Carolina Highway Patrol said the checkpoint was set up on U.S. Highway 421 near Campbell University around 2:30 a.m. on Sunday. Troopers say 23-year-old Shane Garner of Coats was driving the truck and didn't stop for the checkpoint. 

Authorities say he turned off U.S. 421, lost control and hit a tree. The truck burst into flames. Authorities say Garner, 20-year-old Austin Ferrell of Buies Creek and 16-year-old Casey Edens of Lillington were killed in the wreck. Two 17-year-old women from Fuquay Varina survived, but are in critical condition. All five were in the cab of the truck. Troopers think Garner had been drinking alcohol. They continue to investigate the crash. According to statistics published by Fathers Against Drunk Driving (FADD), Over 50% of all fatal highway crashes involving two or more cars are alcohol related.

Man escapes burning home but DIES when he goes back in to save his eight pit bulls trapped inside

When his house caught on fire yesterday afternoon, a 36-year-old Elmhurst, Delaware man escaped but went back into the home to rescue his eight pit bulls, including 6 puppies. Tragically, Nate Lewandowski never made it out after re-entering the burning building, and all but one of the pit bulls perished with him. The fire broke out Saturday afternoon at the home Lewandowski's parents bought for him back in 1998.

Five killed in Northern Ontario plane crash

Five people were killed Sunday when a Bearskin airline flight crashed near the Red Lake, Ont., airport. KenoraOnline reports that the 19-passenger plane was arriving from Sioux Lookout, Ont., at about 7:30 p.m. when it went down and burst into flames. "One of the passengers sitting in the rear of the plane was able to rescue a female passenger, also at the rear of the aircraft and drag her to safety," OPP Sgt. Rob McDonough told KenoraOnline. "The plane became totally engulfed in flames, and the bush area around the plane caught fire, as well." It's believed the deceased are two pilots and three passengers. Two of the survivors -- and man and a woman -- are in hospital.

A Texas man was sentenced to death for lighting a 76-year-old gas station clerk on fire even after she cooperated during a robbery last year. A jury in Dallas County sentenced Matthew Lee Johnson, 38, to death Friday following his conviction of a heinous murder in Garland Texas in May 2012, according to the Dallas Morning News. Johnson admitted in court he felt like "scum" for what he did and deserved the death penalty, the newspaper reported.

Johnson entered a gas station holding a water bottle filled with lighter fluid and immediately doused Nancy Harris, as he demanded money, the outlet reported. Harris cooperated and gave Johnson cash, cigarettes, a lighter and even a ring off of her finger, the newspaper reported. But Johnson still lit his victim on fire, the News reported, pausing only to grab some candy on his way out the door. Harris was left in the store and tried to go outside for help where some police officers saw her and called an ambulance, the outlet reported. She was sent to a local hospital where she died a few days later, the outlet reported.

Bill to toughen penalty for drug, alcohol-related vehicular homicide

TOKYO — The lower house of the Diet has approved a bill to stiffen penalties for fatal accidents caused by drivers under the influence of alcohol or drugs. The bill is expected to be passed by the upper house and be enacted into law during the current Diet session that ends on Dec 6. The revision to the Road Traffic Law follows a series of deadly traffic accidents. 16-year-old girl shoots up school, tells reporter 'I Don't Like Mondays'

Monday mornings are tough for everyone, but on Jan. 29, 1979, a freckle-faced red headed teen found a unique way to sing the beginning-of-the-week blues. The first note of her displeasure — a rifle crack — came at around 8:30 a.m., just as a bell rang to signal the start of classes at Grover Cleveland Elementary in San Carlos, Calif., a suburb of San Diego. Children waiting in front of the school started to fall to the ground, bleeding. The sounds of gunfire continued. It took a few shots before the pupils, parents, and teachers realized what was happening.

A sniper, somewhere in the row of houses across the street from the school, was using kids for target practice. With children screaming and bullets flying, Cleveland elementary’s principal, Burton Wragg, 53, ran outside to help the victims and move the other children, who were paralyzed with fear, out of harm's way. There was another pop and Wragg fell, shot in the chest. Mike Suchar, 56, the school custodian, rushed out to help the dying principal and was also shot. Teachers and students barricaded themselves in the school, while nurses treated the wounded. Four victims, however, were still outside. San Diego police officer Robert Robb, first to arrive at the scene, got a bullet in his neck.

The shooting continued until another officer, aided by a security guard from a neighboring high school, commandeered a garbage truck and drove it in front of Cleveland Elementary, blocking the sniper’s sightlines. When it was over, eight children and the police officer were wounded. The custodian and the principal were dead. On a hunch, a reporter from a local paper dialed the phone number at the address police had pinpointed as the sniper’s nest. A young girl answered. The reporter asked if she knew where the shots were coming from. She rattled off the address of her house. When the reporter pointed out that it was her own address, she said, “Yeah, who do you think’s doing the shooting?” The next question, the obvious one, was why? “I don’t like Mondays. This livens up the day,” she told him.

Wife dies falling into husband’s tomb

An elderly Italian wife has died as she was cleaning her husband's grave. Antonietta Testa, 75, was cleaning the tomb when the marble broke, causing her to fall to the bottom of the grave, a drop of 12 feet. Arizona dust storm kills 3 and injures 12 after causing 19-car pileup on highway

An innocent man was kicked and beaten unconscious before being burned to death by vigilante neighbours who mistakenly believed he was a paedophile. 'People who saw this were stunned,' the witness told the newspaper. The observer also said the woman had told her attackers the names of the people she had killed and butchered.

Iran hangs 16 prisoners after guards killed near Pakistan border

Iran's regime carried out a series of revenge executions on Saturday, hanging 16 prisoners in retaliation for a rebel attack which killed 14 border guards. The bloodshed in Sistan-Baluchestan province showed how south-eastern Iran is still affected by a long-running insurgency. Sunnis from the Baluch ethnic minority inhabit this remote desert region, near the border with Pakistan. They are viewed with deep suspicion by Iran’s Shia Persian rulers. A Baluch armed group styling itself “Jundallah” has fought the government for decades. On Friday, gunmen killed 14 Iranian border guards and wounded another five during what IRNA, the official news agency, called “armed clashes in the region of Saravan”. The authorities took revenge on Saturday by executing 16 inmates of Zahedan prison, all of whom were described as “rebels”. Crystal McVea is a 36-year-old married school teacher and mother of four who didn't quite believe in God for most of her life. At the age of three, McVea started to be sexually abused by her drug and alcohol-addicted step father and that abuse continued by him and others until the age of 12. Those experiences made her second guess from a young age whether or not God existed, and if he did, whether he loved her. 'I saw a lot of things that children shouldn't see,' she told WFAA. 'I always believed that God had abandoned me, that he didn't save me, that he didn't love me and I questioned if he was real.' Then, when she was a teenager, she had an abortion. A choice she believed cemented her position as a sinner. 'After that abortion I thought, "I've done it now - if he was real, he could never love me now,"' she told The Blaze.

In December 2009, McVea was taken to the hospital to be treated for pancreatitis when she was accidentally overdosed on pain medication. The last thing McVea remembers is being given the drugs and falling asleep. For the next nine minutes, doctors struggled to revive her as her heart stopped beating. McVea says she was in a more peaceful place. After closing her eyes in the hospital, the next thing she remembers is waking up in heaven. 'I was standing in the most gorgeous light and instantly I recognized where I was. I knew who I was, I knew where I was...' she recalls. In heaven, time seemed to stand still. She recalls being in the presence of two angels - though they didn't look like anyone she had ever met on earth.
