Bronx siblings, ages 5 and 4 months, killed from gas leak, cops eye possible suicide attempt by mom

Police were investigating whether the wife of a city cop fatally gassed their two small kids before a botched suicide try in their Bronx apartment, a police source said. A suicide note/confession was discovered near the bodies of the 5-year-old boy and his infant sister, indicating the mom intended to kill the children and herself inside the Nobel Ave. home, the source said. An upstairs tenant in the building called 911 just before midnight Thursday to report a gas leak. First responders arrived to find a gruesome sight: The unresponsive little boy and his 4-month-old sibling lying dead inside the southeast Bronx home.

But the 29-year-old mother was alive, with just minor cuts on her wrists, and she was taken to Jacobi Medical Center in the Bronx for treatment, police said. She was listed in stable condition. The woman’s devastated husband, a city police officer, broke down in tears after returning home to find his apartment was now a likely crime scene. Both the children were pronounced dead at the scene by an EMS crew.
