Homeowners told investigators that their adult son was home alone asleep around 7:50 a.m. when he heard what sounded like someone trying to force their way into a side door at the house in the 16000 block of Burklin, authorities said.
He then got out of bed, retrieved a handgun and pressed the panic button of the alarm system. When he walk toward the living room, he was confronted by 29-year-old Claude Lowell Woodard. The homeowners' son fired his pistol three times in Woodard's direction, authorities said.
Woodard fled outside toward the driveway, where he collapsed and later died. Authorities found that he was in possession of at least two knives and a replica BB gun, authorities said.

"He who can, does. He who cannot, teaches."
"Being is substance and life; life manifests by movement; movement is perpetuated by equilibrium; equilibrium is therefore the law of immortality.
"The doctrine of equality!... But there exists no more poisonous poison: for it seems to be preached by justice itself, while it is the end of justice.... "Equality for equals, inequality for unequals" that would be the true voice of justice: and, what follows from it, "Never make equal what is unequal."
