Teen killed in Southland street-racing wreck attended Ruskin

A 17-year-old girl killed in a horrific traffic crash Wednesday afternoon in south Kansas City was an active and popular student at Ruskin High School. Alycia Cornelius, who would have turned 18 on April 25, was killed instantly when the car she was riding in collided with a tree and broke into pieces, according to Kansas City police.

Pieces of glass from the car remained imbedded in the tree trunk Thursday, attesting to the force of the collision.

Two vehicles heading north on Hillcrest appeared to be drag racing and traveling at a high rate of speed when one of the drivers lost control and skidded sideways into the tree on the east side of the street, witnesses told police.
