CHIBA — A minivan crashed into a group of schoolchildren waiting for a bus in Tateyama, Chiba Prefecture, on Friday morning, killing a 6-year-old boy.
The driver, a 20-year-old part-time worker identified as Hiroyuki Okawara, was arrested and charged with negligent driving resulting in the death of Kosei Yamada, NTV reported.
According to police, the children and two adults were waiting for the bus at 7:30 a.m. when the minivan hit them. The boy was dragged underneath the vehicle for about 25 meters, NTV reported. He was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead at 11 a.m., police said.
