In a tragic coincidence, Wiley died of a gunshot wound to the head just three days later.
One week earlier, she had posted about being 'kicked out' of her home, saying: 'I hate my life, I feel like dying.' But despite Wiley's suicidal posts, her death is being treated as a homicide.
Police found blood and tire tracks at the ditch, but no weapon - and De La Cruz does not think her friend was actually capable of taking her own life.
'She was depressed, and she did talk about committing suicide but I don't think she did,' she said.
No arrests have been made.
