Sicko who raped elderly birdwatcher pleads guilty, faces 30 years

A deranged sex fiend who raped a 73-year-old bird watcher in Central Park last year pleaded guilty on Tuesday. David Mitchell copped to rape, robbery as a sexually-motivated felony and weapons possession for an unrelated knife incident, and is expected to get 30 years in prison when he's sentenced Oct. 16. The bearded and heavily-tattooed sicko, wearing a bright orange jumpsuit, nonchalantly admitted to the vile crime at his brief Manhattan Supreme Court appearance. "Yeah," he mumbled to a series of questions posed by Judge Bonnie Wittner, including whether Mitchell "with forcible compulsion ... had sexual intercourse" with the helpless victim. He also admitted to fleeing with her camera bag. The victim, a professional photographer who was attacked about 11:30 a.m. on Sept. 12, 2012, is expected to speak at his sentencing. She was left bloodied and bruised after the violent attack.
