A mass grave revealed the horrific impact of Syrian violence as the brutal regime stepped up attacks on opposition activists and rebels four days before a United Nations deadline planned to bring a stop to the bloodshed.
The picture reportedly shows dozens of bodies lying on top of one another in the town of Taftnaz as corpses were laid out for burial in the northwestern Syrian Idlib province.
Syrian troops and tanks engaged in violent stand-offs with rebels ahead of next week's deadline, agreed by President Bashar al-Assad as part of international envoy Kofi Annan's effort to bring an end to a year of violence.

"He who can, does. He who cannot, teaches."
"Being is substance and life; life manifests by movement; movement is perpetuated by equilibrium; equilibrium is therefore the law of immortality.
"The doctrine of equality!... But there exists no more poisonous poison: for it seems to be preached by justice itself, while it is the end of justice.... "Equality for equals, inequality for unequals" that would be the true voice of justice: and, what follows from it, "Never make equal what is unequal."
