Man stabbed to death in front of his family 'for asking after the well-being of child in restaurant'

A father out celebrating his daughter's birthday was brutally knifed to death in front of his horrified family just because he asked after the well-being of a young child, a court heard today.

Alan Smith, 63, was repeatedly stabbed at least five times in less than a minute as he sat with his partner, daughter and son-in-law in a cafe in London's East End.

His alleged killer, Matthew Quesada, had taken affront when Mr Smith had approached him in the BB Cafe to ask if his young daughter, who was crying, was alright.
