MEXICO CITY (AP) — Police in southern Guerrero state found 16 bodies left in a truck in a region plagued by drug violence. The bodies were found in Coyuca de Catalan, the state Attorney General's Office said in a statement Monday. That city is close to the border with Michoacan state. The remote mountain region known as "Tierra Caliente" for its steamy climate is a battleground between drug gangs including La Familia Michoacana and the breakaway Knights Templar.

Woman arrested over dead baby found in locker

TSUKUBA — Police said Tuesday they have arrested a 30-year-old woman in Tsukuba, Ibaraki Prefecture, following the discovery of the body of her one-week-old baby daughter in a coin locker. According to police, the infant’s body was found wrapped in a plastic shopping bag in a bus terminal locker on Sept 8 at around 10 a.m., TV Asahi reported. Police used surveillance camera footage to trace the bag back to the mother, identified as Miyuki Nagamine, who was arrested on Monday. Nagamine was quoted by police as saying she had given birth alone on Sept 3 and then put the child in the locker, TV Asahi reported. Police said an autopsy will be conducted to determine the exact cause of the infant’s death.

KAWASAKI — Police said Wednesday they have arrested a 61-year-old woman over a hit-and-run incident in which a 36-year-old woman was seriously injured and her 1-year-old son killed when they were knocked down by a driver in a hit-and-run incident in Kawasaki. According to eyewitness reports, the woman and her son were riding a bicycle on a road near their home at around 10 a.m. on Tuesday when they were hit by a white Mercedes Benz being driven by a female driver, Fuji TV reported. An eyewitness told police the driver briefly stopped her car before fleeing the scene. The child died at a hospital shortly after the incident and the woman sustained serious injuries, police said.

Three people are dead after a minibus carrying cancer patients collided with a runaway trailer in northern Tasmania. Police say a Cancer Council bus was returning 10 patients to Burnie after they had received treatment in Launceston. Anglican priests defrocked over abuse claims

Newcastle's Anglican Bishop Brian Farran has defrocked three priests over child sex allegations, including a member of the upper echelons of the church. Bishop Farran has acted on an Anglican Professional Standards Board recommendation to defrock the revered former dean of Newcastle, Graeme Lawrence, along with reverends Bruce Hoare and Andrew Duncan. The board found there was misconduct in relation to several sexual allegations. Bishop Farran announced the defrockings to the ABC. "There will be people in Newcastle who will be extraordinarily angry with me, but unfortunately the processes must be followed," he said. Bishop Farran fought back tears as he explained his decision.

"The Professional Standards Board considered some very disturbing material and determined that some of the respondents engaged in sexual misconduct, including misconduct when the complainant was a child," he said. Another priest, Reverend Graeme Sturt, received an order banning him from exercising any ministry for five years. A former church worker has also been prevented from holding any lay office in the church.

A boy suicide bomber killed at least six people when he blew himself up close to Nato's headquarters in Kabul, police said. The violent past of the father who killed his two sons and then himself emerged last night. Graham Anderson had been jailed last year for attacking the boys’ mother, Victoria Jones. The bodies of their boys, 11-year-old Jack and three-year-old Bryn, were found at their rented family home in Tidworth, Wiltshire, on Saturday. Anderson had hanged himself in another room. His landlady made the horrific discovery when she let herself in to the flat to show prospective tenants around. Police are trying to determine how and when the children died. Friends say Anderson, an unemployed removal man, was a jealous brute whose 16-year relationship with Miss Jones was punctuated with violence and accusations of infidelity. The 36-year-old is said to have snapped when he found out she had moved on and settled down with another man.

Tattoo artist's body found in 16 pieces scattered across Delhi

The headless body of a tattoo artist has been found cut into at least 16 pieces - but police are insisting his death was an accident. The body of Paras Bhasin was discovered by railway tracks in Ganesh Nagar in east Delhi, India, and detectives believe he was crushed by a train. The 23-year-old could only be identified by the tattoo on his arm, which bore the name of his wife. TOKYO — A man died after he was beaten by a gang of about 10 men wearing ski masks in a club in Roppingi early Sunday morning. According to police, they received a call from the club Flower at about 3:40 a.m., reporting trouble, NTV reported. Witnesses were quoted as saying that a gang of about 10 men came into the club. Some were brandishing metal bats and attacked a 31-year-old man who was drinking with friends. The attack lasted about 1-2 minutes, witnesses said. The gang left immediately after the assault and got away in a van, police said. The 31-year-old victim was taken to hospital with severe head injuries, but was pronounced dead.

The evening began jovially enough when Mr Yun, the owner of a noodle shop in the central Chinese city of Xi'an, invited his family to celebrate Qixi, China's Valentine's Day, with a singing session at a local karaoke parlour. But by 11pm, there was discord in the room. Mr Yun's four-year-old son was hogging the microphone and his parents were indulging him. Two of the boy's uncles began chastising Mr Yun and his wife for having raised a spoilt child; a "Little Emperor", as the Chinese say. According to the Xi'an police, the argument became heated to the point where the two uncles began pushing, and then punching, Mr Yun. Finally, Mr Yun's nephew, who also worked in the noodle shop, ran back to the restaurant and fetched a meat cleaver. The man, named as Mr Hui, hacked the two uncles to death, inflicting at least ten wounds on each uncle. He has since been arrested. There is no shortage of criticism inside China for the bad behaviour of the Little Emperors, the children raised under the one-child policy and doted on by their parents. Karaoke, meanwhile, is taken very seriously not just in China, but throughout Asia, where singing rivals alcohol as a social lubricant.
