They were among the last words of a man about to be executed for a double murder.
Strapped to the gurney inside the death chamber, Keith Thurmond continued to protest his innocence, saying 'I didn't kill my wife... I swear to God I didn't kill her'.
Moments later at 6.22pm on Wednesday afternoon the Texas man was declared dead 11 minutes after being put to death by lethal injection.
The 52-year-old had fatally shot his estranged wife and the neighbour who became her boyfriend.

"He who can, does. He who cannot, teaches."
"Being is substance and life; life manifests by movement; movement is perpetuated by equilibrium; equilibrium is therefore the law of immortality.
"The doctrine of equality!... But there exists no more poisonous poison: for it seems to be preached by justice itself, while it is the end of justice.... "Equality for equals, inequality for unequals" that would be the true voice of justice: and, what follows from it, "Never make equal what is unequal."
