A leisurely trip to a tennis club turned to tragedy when an elderly woman was run over by her own car on Wednesday morning. The 79-year-old was reversing out of her local Aberdare Road club, in the NSW Hunter Region, at about 10.15am when the accident happened. Central Hunter duty officer Chief Inspector Lindsell said she was trying to perform a reversing U-turn in the club's driveway, the Maitland Mercury reports.

HR Giger dies at 74

The Swiss artist and designer of Ridley Scott's Alien, H. R. Giger, has died aged 74, a spokesperson at Giger's museum in Gruyere has confirmed. He died in hospital on Monday after he fell down stairs at his Zurich home. Born in 1940, Giger was best known for his 'Xenomorph' alien in Scott's sci-fi horror masterpiece for which he won a visual effects Oscar in 1980. He studied architecture and industrial design in Zurich and was known for creating strange dreamscapes.

Six people and one elephant killed after cars pile into a herd running wild near Thai nature reserve

Six people have been killed and two others injured today after three wild elephants walked into a road in Thailand.
