An Indian teenager sliced off his tongue with a blunt blade in an extreme act of devotion to his Hindu God. Lalmohan Soren, 17, was sitting at Mahedevgarha Temple, in Dugda, Jharkhand, when worshippers spotted blood splattered across the floor as they filled the temple for their morning prayers. Lalmohan's tongue was inside a bowl next to his feet with a note saying: ‘I have cut off my tongue and offered it to Lord Shiva. 'Please do not throw me out of the temple, I just want to sit here at the feet of the Lord’.

Husband 'battered his wife to death with a dumbbell after private investigators uncovered her affair by fitting tracking device to her car'

A jealous husband battered his wife to death with a metal dumbbell after he hired private detectives and found out she was having an affair, a court heard. Nirmal Gill, 49, is accused of murdering wife Rosemary, 48, after becoming ‘possessive’ and suspicious of her behaviour. He contracted private investigators who fitted a tracking device to Mrs Gill’s car, a jury heard. Gill then followed his wife and spotted her embracing her ex-husband during a secret meeting at a motorway service station, the court was told. He is accused of carrying out the fatal attack three days later, using a metal dumbbell to strike his wife in the head at least 12 times at their home.

Mrs Gill’s naked and bloodied body was discovered eight hours later by the couple’s daughter, Jasmine, 19, who had been sleeping in the room next door. Michael Fitton QC, prosecuting, told the jury that Gill admits manslaughter due to a loss of control, but denies murder. But he argued: ‘He didn’t lose control of himself when he beat her to death – he knew what he was doing. He was killing her in revenge for what he had discovered about her behaviour because she had been unfaithful. ‘He was killing her because he was a jealous man who was never going to forgive her, not just for the affair but for lying to him. She paid for her affair with her life.’

Boy, 7, accidentally shot dead by brother while out killing moles

A seven-year-old Indiana boy has died after being shot by his brother. Noble County Sheriff Doug Harp says Jaylin Andrew Miller and his brother had gone outside to shoot moles when Jaylin's brother discharged the gun on Saturday afternoon. According to a statement from the Noble County Sheriff's Department, the boys were outside trying shoot ground moles when the brother accidentally discharged the firearm, killing his brother.

Woman walks into police station with body of infant in her bag

SAITAMA — Police in Omiya, Saitama Prefecture, have arrested a 23-year-old woman who turned herself in at a police station, carrying a bag which contained the body of her newborn son. According to police, the woman, identified as Minayo Abo, walked into the Omiya police station at around 8 p.m. on Sunday. Fuji TV quoted a police spokesman as saying Abo was a resident of Okubo in Shinjuku Ward in Tokyo and was unemployed. Abo was quoted by police as saying the baby died at childbirth one week earlier and that she was alone when she gave birth. No external wounds were apparent on the baby’s body, which still had the umbilical cord attached, police said.

Czech bank robber hands himself in 'after paying back his friends'

A Czech bank robber handed himself in a day after stealing thousands of pounds saying he had taken the money "to pay back good friends", leaving police dumbfounded. The robber had first called the police just 10 minutes after purloining the equivalent of £6,000 from a Prague bank to tell them he would appear at a police station the next day, and he was true to his word. Tomas Hulan, from the Prague police, said that even the city's most experienced detectives had never experienced a case like this.

"He came in confessed to the robbery, and explained he had to do it because of financial problems," said Mr Hulan. "Apparently some 'bad people' had stolen his money but some people had helped him out and he wanted 'pay the good friends back'." The robber, who has not been named for legal reasons, went to the bank in the Radotin district of Prague and waited patiently in a queue. When it was his turn he handed a note to the cashier telling her he had a gun and to hand over the money. But his friends who received the cash will have to return it, and could even face a police investigation if they accepted the money knowing its criminal origins.
