Swarms of deadly hornets have killed more than 40 people and injured more than 1,600 in northern China. At least 37 patients are in a critical or serious condition in hospitals, according to Shaanxi provincial government. Victims of the attack have been left with deep, dark craters in their skin the size of bullet wounds.

A swarm of about 30,000 bees attacked a North Texas couple as they exercised their miniature horses, stinging the animals so many times they died. Kristen Beauregard, 44, was stung about 200 times, and her boyfriend about 50 times, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported Saturday. But the horses, Chip and Trump, were so covered in bees they shimmered. Neither could be saved.

Texas farmer stung to death by killer bees

A farmer near Waco, Texas, was killed by a swarm of about 40,000 killer bees after he drove by their hive on Saturday. The Waco Herald-Tribune reports that the victim, Larry Goodwin, was on his tractor and hit an unused chicken coop which housed the hive and the lethal Africanized honey bees attacked. Goodwin's family told NBC station KCEN of Waco that every bit of exposed skin was covered with stings. "He had thousands and thousands of bee stings on his face and arms," his daughter Tanya told KCEN. Goodwin of Moody, Tex., tried to save himself by running to a garden hose but was unsuccessful. A neighbour who tried to help, along with responding volunteer firefighters, were also stung several times by the aggressive bees.

The 55-year-old was last seen Friday when he went hiking, and a search began Monday when friends got worried because he didn't go to work. Searchers found both Johnson and his dog dead. The dog was on the top of the cliff and also had been stung. It was buried on the mountain. A climber who went to the area Monday says Johnson's rope was hanging within a few feet of a beehive.

47-year-old Munia Sanchara was attacked by a swarm of the aggressive bees while picking mangoes outside her home.

Man stung to death by wasps

A man is dead after being stung by wasps in the Marlborough Sounds.

The 62-year-old was collecting firewood with another man in Kenepuru Sound when they disturbed a wasps nest, Sergeant Dave Houston of Wellington police maritime unit told NZ Newswire.

The men ran in separate directions and when the other found the 62-year-old he was not breathing.
