A Sudanese court gave a 27-year-old woman who is eight-months pregnant with her second child, until Thursday to abandon her newly adopted Christian faith and return to Islam or face a death sentence. Mariam Yahya Ibrahim was charged with apostasy as well as adultery for marrying a Christian man, something prohibited for Muslim women to do and which makes the marriage void. The final ruling will be announced on later today. Ibrahim's case was the first of its kind to be heard in Sudan.

Massachusetts woman slashes boyfriend’s neck with ax, tells cops he’s dead

Massachusetts man was in a critical condition with neck wounds after his girlfriend attacked him with an ax and told cops he was dead. Rhonda Ravanis, 47 of Lunenburg, left boyfriend Robert Volpe, 53, in a pool of blood before marching over to a neighbor’s home and bashed the front door with the ax and smashed a window, police said. Cops arrived moments later, but the 5-foot-10 woman lunged at them and spit at officers until she was finally cuffed. “I axed him, he is gone,” she told cops. “I just killed him.” The crazed woman even tried to jump out of the vehicle at one point, cops said.

A 14-year-old boy accused of brutally beating an elderly woman while she slept in her nursing home bed, has been arrested following a nearly week-long manhunt in California. Police nabbed Raymond Michael Miranda in a Temecula hotel room last night over the April 17 attack which left an 87-year-old woman fighting for her life in hospital. Raymond and a 15-year-old boy allegedly broke into the unidentified woman's room at the Camelot Independent Living complex in Hemet and violently beat her in a botched robbery attempt about 2am. Some reports also claim they splashed bleach on the victim. While officials are legally prohibited from identifying juvenile suspects, investigators made an exception with Raymond who they say is dangerous.

Twenty people have been injured - some with life-threatening wounds - in a stabbing spree Wednesday morning at Franklin Regional High School in Murrysville, Pennsylvania. Murrysville police chief Thomas Seefeld confirmed a 16-year-old male student is in custody. He said an assistant principal wrestled the suspect to the ground after he ran through multiple classrooms and hallways brandishing two knives. Four of the victims were airlifted to hospital and three were being operated on, according to Westmoreland County emergency management and hospital officials. Forbes Regional Hospital in Monroeville and five other hospitals including Allegheny General Hospital and UPMC-Presby were treating patients. The majority of victims are 14-17 year old students though one adult - a male security guard - suffered a stomach wound, Seefeld confirmed. Police were called to the school by a resource officer about 7:13 a.m., about 15 minutes after the school doors opened for the day. One witness told NBC News that he saw 'blood all over the floor.'

Man lost at sea while performing California beach baptism

A man swept out to sea by seven-foot waves during an oceanside baptismal ceremony in California on Sunday remained missing a day later as hopes faded he would be found alive, officials said on Monday. U.S. Coast Guard spokesman Adam Stanton said three men were initially washed away by the surf while performing the religious ceremony, held on the shore of the Rancho Guadalupe Dunes Preserve in the small Santa Barbara County city of Guadalupe. Two of the men were able swim back to shore without injuries, but the third man, whom authorities have not named, was still lost on Monday afternoon, according to a statement by the Santa Barbara Fire Department. A Pakistani court has convicted a British man with a history of mental illness of blasphemy and sentenced him to death for insulting Islam’s Prophet. Prosecutor Javed Gul said Mohammed Asghar had been arrested under the country’s blasphemy laws in 2010 in Rawalpindi for claiming to be the Prophet Muhammad. Gul says a judge sentenced Asghar, who is of Pakistani origin, on Thursday. Sarah Belal, the director of the Justice Project Pakistan, which had previously defended Asghar says he suffers from mental illness. She says they’ll appeal the conviction. Scores have been arrested in Pakistan under the country’s harsh blasphemy laws, which rights groups say are too broad and vague. The sentence can be life in prison or death, although the death penalty is rarely carried out in Pakistan.

An 88-year-old man allegedly shot his elderly wife in the chest while she was lying in a hospital bed. According to police William Dresser, 88, walked into the rehab unit of Carson Tahoe Regional Medical Center, Nevada, yesterday morning before shooting his wife once in the chest with a pistol. Dresser was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and has been placed on suicide watch by officers. His wife, who has not been identified, suffered life-threatening injuries and was transferred to Renown Regional Medical Center in Reno. No details of why she was originally admitted to the hospital were released, but officials don't suspect foul play. Thirteen people, including a 3-year-old boy who suffered a gunshot wound to the head, were shot at a Chicago park in the Back of the Yards neighborhood Thursday night, authorities said.

Man Comes Back to Life After Being Declared Dead

DAYTON, Ohio (KTLA) – A 37-year-old man came back to life 45 minutes after medical personnel declared him dead, according to officials at Kettering Medical Center. Anthony Yahle was rushed to the hospital Aug. 5 after being found unconscious by his wife. Later that afternoon, Yahle’s heart went into a fatal arrhythmia. The medical staff tried to resuscitate Yahle for nearly a hour with no success, cardiologist Dr. Raja Nazir said. At that point Nazir called time of death. He told the family and allowed them to see Yahle to say goodbye. Yahle’s 17-year-old son, Lawrence, said he was in disbelief. “I pointed at him and said ‘Dad you’re not going to die today’,” Lawrence said. Within moments Yahle’s heartbeat started to show signs of activity. “I’ve never seen anybody who we have pronounced dead come back,” Nazir said. The husband and father of three was released from the hospital with no further complications. He was set to return to work on Monday. “I’m calling it a miracle because I’ve never seen anything like it,” Nazir said.

Five men are in intensive care after they were shot outside a church in Uptown, Chicago. The Baptist church had been hosting a soup kitchen for the homeless and was in the process of serving meals to more than 100 people when the men were shot outside. Three of the men were members of a local gang and it is believed the incident was a hit by a rival group, but ‘at least two’ of the victims had been at the charity meal.

Housekeeper, 52, fights for life after pack of 15 stray dogs 'eat her to the bone' as she waited for a bus in broad daylight

Maria Arcos was set upon by a pack of at least 15 dogs while she was on her way to start a new job on Monday morning. 'They bit her arms, her legs, her neck. They cover her. 'Supposedly in 48 hours, if she doesn’t get better, she’s not going to make it.'
