Prosecutors say a man picked up a knife and stabbed his boyfriend more than 50 times during an arguement in their Lake View neighborhood apartment.
Herbert Van Stephens, 52, was charged Wednesday with one count of first-degree murder. On Thursday, he was ordered held on $500,000 bond, Cook County State’s Attorney’s office spokeswoman Lisa Gordon said.
John E. Atkinson, 25, of the 600 block of West Stratford Place, was pronounced dead at 12:08 a.m. Tuesday at Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office. The cause of death was multiple stab and incise wounds.
