SUN VALLEY -- A dismembered body found on the southbound Golden State (5) Freeway in Sun Valley has been identified as a 19-year-old woman from Los Angeles, according to the coroner's office.
The remains of Trish J. Robertson were first reported at 9:19 p.m. Wednesday at the Laurel Canyon Boulevard overpass, near Sheldon Street.
At first the body was though to be that of a dead dog, but authorities soon determined the remains were human.
Investigators are still trying to figure out how Robertson got onto the freeway.
"There is no evidence the person jumped off the overpass," said Lt. Robert Davis of the Los Angeles Police Department's Foothill Station.
"There is a tall fence. At this time this will be handled as a traffic fatality. It's unknown why this person was on the freeway."
Robertson's body was struck several times by vehicles on the freeway and her remains were dismembered, Davis said.
"One person has so far come in to say they hit the body," said CHP Officer Ming Hsu.
All lanes of the southbound 5 Freeway were shut down for about six hours during the investigation, according to the California Highway Patrol.
