Man takes teen hostage, demands date with sister

A man in Russia looking for a date thought shock tactics would trump sending a sweet card. And, for going the unorthodox route of catching the girl's eye, he faces the prospect of five years in prison. Police in Novokuznetsk said they arrested the man after he took a 16-year-old girl hostage and demanded a date with her older sister. According to a statement from the local Interior Ministry, the suspect busted into the girl's home Saturday looking for her sister. Police said that when he did not find her, he took out a weapon that resembled an assault rifle and placed what looked like an explosive device on a door. “The man demanded that the teenager call her sister or he would blow up the house,” the statement said. Police managed to convince the man to surrender and arrested him. They said they confiscated an air gun and “a bundle of green wire that resembled a grenade.”
